What Does the Counseling Process Look Like:

5 Phase Therapeutic Process

Phase 1: Consultation- During our 15 minute (maximum time allotted) consultation, we will discuss what brings you to therapy, my role as a therapist, treatment modalities utilized, and we’ll determine if we're a good fit in working together. We will determine if I could possibly meet your needs as a counselor.

Phase 2: Intake - Completion of documentation, consents, and an assessment in order to continue to move forward with therapy.

Phase 3: Goal clarification & Vision Alignment- Together we will get clear on your goals and the vision you have for your life. We will identify what you want your life to look like in 6 months, a year, or even further in your future. Together we will create an individualized action plan for transformation (treatment plan/plan of care - this will include your long term and short term goals, and interventions that will be used to help you with reaching those goals). We want to ensure we are being intentional about reaching your goals.

Phase 4: Self Discovery & Growth Process- We will meet weekly or biweekly for therapy sessions where you will identify thoughts, behaviors, and patterns that are keeping you from reaching your goals; learn ways to release what no longer serves you'; explore and identify new and healthy ways of thinking, new skills, and new patterns of behaviors that align with your values to help reach your goals. This is the phase where you increase your self awareness, we work together through your healing, and you move toward growth and transformation.

Phase 5: Empowered Transformation- you have increased your self awareness, you've gained insight, applying what you've learned in your everyday life. You are now equipped with the tools necessary to end our work together and flourish independently. We celebrate your wins and successfully graduate you from therapy.

What is the Difference between Therapy and Coaching?

Many people get the two confused, but we will clarify for you. Therapy is used in terms of resolution of interpersonal relationships and personal, mental conflicts whereas coaching is used more in terms of instruction and training. Despite the similarities in these two concepts, there are many differences.

Therapy may delve into the past of an individual, involve the deep, mental and emotional healing of an individual to help in making the present better.

Coaching looks at the present, to improve the future.

Coaching is to improve upon performance or skills whereas therapy is to help resolve emotional/psychological problems and conflicts.

Therapists are trained to diagnose problems in an effort to enable and empower clients to resolve their psychological and emotional conflicts, while coaches are mainly concerned with goal setting and improving the present skill levels of the clients.
